Time for the annual Christmas baking to start. Tried a new recipe out that's basically sugar sandwich cookies made with brown sugar and a browned butter filling. Not really being a frosting girl, (although when I have it, it's on it's own and straight from the can/mixer) I think I'll leave the filling out next time. And maybe add a little cinnamon to the batter.
Posting this mainly so I can find it again later when I forget.
Working in a bookstore I usually buy CD copies of audiobooks so I can use my employee discount. However, if you import audiobooks off CD into your itunes it usually puts them in your music folder, which is annoying because then they come up randomly during shuffle. However, the new itunes has a way to fix it as seen here.
I know this will make Rachel happy too.
Our voice mail at work is a big pain and I work with people who are afraid of technology so we have a message to let people know they've called the right number. It sounds something like the following-
"Hi, you've reached blahblahblah. Our hours are x to y etc. If you have reached this message during business hours we are unable to answer the answer the phone at this time and ask you to please call back in a few minutes. Please do not leave a message because we cannot retrieve them. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience"
(I realize this isn't the greatest customer service but if we are open we do answer the phone 99% of the time.) So people leave messages. I had always assumed that they did the obvious thing, tuning out the message completely until they heard the beep, at which point they left a message because that's what you do. I can completely understand this. I found out today that this is not the main problem.
The message box was so full it just decided to stop playing our little info spiel and just started hanging up on customers instead. So I went through the 3 menus of button pushing and caught up on all the messages. 10% we hang ups. 10% were actual customers. The other 80% were actual customers who's messages started this way-
"So... I know it said not to leave a message..."
I'm going to list all the ways this article makes me happy.
- Crazy, possibly world ending science fun.
- A youtube link to a rap about a super collider that is as boring and embarrassing as all the science raps I remember from school.
- A scientist named Brian Cox.
- Who is willing to swear to a reporter about the people that write him letters about #1.
Oh you heard me. Video at National Geographic. Now I love octopus and hate spiders and these are like some freaky crossbreeding of the two so I am deeply conflicted as to how to feel about this. Something about the way they move definitely makes me lean over towards being completely creeped out. And yet, Giant Sea Spiders. You couldn't really ask for a cooler name.
Maybe I'll just try and about them like jellyfish which are both terrifying and cool. That and be glad I'm really far from the ocean right now.
